Legong Dance - Bali, Indonesia

To discover a different culture in a different land is possible one of the greatest education one can have. The culture in Bali is so alive, rick and visible. It is perhaps one of the reasons this island will be place of discovery for people around the world. That’s what makes this island so unique.

Balinese dance is an ancient dance tradition that is part of the religious and artistic expression among the Balinese people of Bali Island, Indonesia. Balinese dance is dynamic, angular and intensely expressive. Balinese dancers express the stories of dance-drama through the bodily gestures including gestures of fingers, hands, head and eyes. Legong is a form of Balinese dance. It is a refined dance form characterised by intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, and expressive gestures and facial expressions.

4 — Legong Kraton

A classic dance, Legong is the name for a kind of classical dance by 3 girls, one enact the palace attendant CHONDONG, while the other two are playing the LEGONG or the main characters of the story. From among various stories to play this troupe presents the story of King Lasem. Princes of Langkesari of Daha Kingdom.

Despite his effort, she refuses to yield to him as she believes that her fiancé, Prince of Kahuripan, is coming to her rescue. Feeling sorry for her abductor, LangKesari urges him to let her free, but the kidnapper prefers to oppose and fight his contender instead of releasing her. On the way to the battle Lasem meets reven, symbol of bad omen, yet he continues his way only to die in the battle.

5 — Kebyar Duduk or Taruna Jaya

This contemporary dance, which from north Bali, depicts the period of infancy and adolescence on the life of a prince. The gestures and movement of the dancer girl dressed as young man, bravery and the effervescence of youth.

6 — Kupu-Kupu Tarum

A sacred dance. This is choreography is exhibiting the glamorous butterfly in the heaven at romantic atmosphere.

7 — Oleg Tambulilingan

A graceful love dance. First a girl dances expressing ad a flower gracefully and attracts a boy bumblebee to come. Later a bumblebee is coming and dancing together flower to flower seducing & teasing in romantic mood.

8 — Jauk Dance

A mask dance. Exhibits a demon be alone in the jungle who was his freedom to play move and be happy. Watch the ancient costume the dancer turns around.
